Living Memory

29 01 2008

As I type my father is undergoing an operation to remove a metastatic brain tumor.  They tell us we could know as early as tomorrow where the primary cancer is.  That will be a huge relief since not knowing has been the scariest part of this experience.  I’m dealing with it through my art.  Hopefully I can stay focused through this project but today I decided to forgo classes since I’m freaking out pretty nicely at home.  In an effort to stay calm I’ve started looking through the photos I took of him this weekend.  No matter what happens he won’t look like this again for a long time.   dad-face.jpg

Hello Amanda,
I know our meeting Friday was about work and a serious situation with your Mac laptop but I can’t begin to tell you how much I enjoyed talking with you and hearing about the things you’re doing. So often, people forced to be together for whatever reason simply make superficial talk to pass the time but today was different. I had a wonderful time talking photography, country living, grandparents and Mac computers with you. You absolutely made my day! Your family has to be very proud of you and what you are doing.

Your photography is exceptional and I encourage you to keep up the pack rat philosophy. Personally, I found it very hard to be told as a photographer to shoot a particular project when I was more interested in going outside and shooting everything I could see from old barns to broken windows.

Please keep posting more on the project with your grandmother too. I love that and it’s so inspirational. I wish I had done this with my grandmother.

Thanks for sharing – Randy
